I just finished reading Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. It was fantastic. I highly recommend.
It isn't a new release, was published in 2003, but I'd just never bothered to read Koontz. I knew the name, but there is always so much I want to read, but haven't had the time, that he just hadn't registered on my radar. That was a mistake. Koontz can write. I don't mean he can write well enough to provide mediocre formula escape fiction for the masses. I mean he can really, really WRITE.
There are few things on earth as satisfying as discovering an author you really like, especially one who has a long list of published books you now want to read. Combine that with a planned afternoon of mixing a new batch of homemade wax (which I suggest if your floors are unsealed and you have pets, children, want the place to smell good or spend a lot of time licking your floors... the commercial stuff is toxic) for the hardwoods and waxing all the floors and you very nearly have total bliss. Some days are just so delicious...
