I think there are different racists out there. So a short answer would be, depending on the kind of racist.

I think there are least 5-10% of "hardcore racists" - i.e. racists all the time, openly and not so openly (depending on circumstances).
Then, there are about 10-20% of "convenience racists" - they are racist when things don't turn out there way. Like getting cutoff in traffic, or standing in a long azz line in DMV.
Then, there are about another 5-10% of "closet racists" - they are totally racist, but would not openly admit it, perhaps even when in the company or other racists. They want to hate in private.

So, my high end estimate is around 40%.

Note, this is across all races, not just black or white

 

Wow, you surprised me with these numbers.  I mean, seriously? 20-40%?  You really think 5-10% are totally racist?  That's one out of 10-20 people.

Let me ask you, do you consider yourself a 'convenience racist'?

Also, with such a high % of racists, how did Obama come to power?

Also, if you acknowledge that blacks are also 20-40% racist, then let me ask you in 412's words, "what's the point of the entire hubbub"?

And also, the black convenience racists, do you think they get a little racist at the DMV as well? :)

your both arguments are useless because you didn't established a definition for the word "racist".

Once you have agreed on the definition - then you can talk about numbers ;)

I'll use Anton's recent allegations as an example.  According to Anton, vast majority of US population is racist, ignorant,  you name it.  In reality that figure (i am just throwing out a number for argument's sake) may be something like 3%.  

I was interested in that question too, long time ago, and then I sort of gave up on it. However, from what I have learned many years ago, the blacks are consistently more racists than the whites. It was on a radio talk show (not a conservative or a liberal) and the Internet that I studied. There was a study they had in which a white woman and a black man or a white man and a black woman would interact with each other in a romantic way on a video. Then they showed that video to either the blacks or the whites and measured electric responses to determine the negative reaction. The numbers they've come up with was astounding. 40-50% of whites and 60-70% of blacks were racists. So, it is way up fro 3%. I think it is very close to the reality from my own experience. There are no degrees of being racist (and that is to Anton). you are either a racist or you not. I wonder what that number would be now as we have a black president, and what would that number be after he leaves his office :)
