In case we're not getting enough e-mail and SMS spam, here is something new to look forward to -- phone spam. Automated message that calls you any time with a marketing message.  Attached is the actual voice mail.

Voice mail was advertisement of Russian TV from LARUTV.  (www.larutv.com).  In case you're considering using them for your Russian TV service, I would strongly advice against it.  Company that uses SPAM obviously does not value it's clients.

I have my boot in the ass of telemarketing callers as deep as esophagus is located but I don't know what to do about automatic phone spammers. I've got several calls with pre-recorded messages. They all have either 1-800 call back number or "unknown caller". I can ignore 800 ones but "unknown" is often shown when I got calls from Russia.

дослушайте сообщение, запишите номер и перезвоните им, популярно объясните, что 'don't call us, we'll call you" ...а вообще не раздавайте своего телефона попусту в магазинах (когда спрашивают на кассе), когда покупаете что-то с интернета и т.п. Если уж очень надо, я даю свой мобильник - на него телемаркетеры звонить не могут (пока). У меня и отдельный ящик для е-мэйлов есть, который я использую при регистрации на каких-нибудь вебсайтах, а потом вычищаю его раз в месяц, поэтому на моем основном е-майле спама практически нет. Товарищи, будте бдительны - враг не спит (или как там, я уже не помню), тогда и нервы будут тратиться на много меньше на не нужные звонки и е-майлы.

I have a special number that is voice-mail only responce.  You can get one free from AOL Phoneline (www.aolphoneline.com) or GrandCentral (www.grandcentral.com). 

I never give out my cell phone number (except for personal contacts) and never answer my home phone number, since 9 out of 10 calls is a telemerketer and the rest is a wrong number.

BTW, the spam voice mail was left on my voice-mail only phone, which can only be found on some online postings.  Someone had to scrape the site to obtain that number.

The reasons for landline:

• Required for DSL Internet by AT&T
• Required for Home Security System
• Useful for faxing

There are work-arounds for each of these, but the cost will not justify going that route.

There are couple things you can do about phone spammers. You can get company name and number and submit complain to BBB. Also if your phone number in Do Not Call Registry you can file complain here and spammers will be punished.
