well, I was hoping some others would either agree with me or rebuke me on what I've said :)
I guess no one else has an opinion? :)

I guess, it's simply because there are no more fans of Zeppelin here I guess...
I have to admit that I don't have any "Zepellin's" music at home unlike "Scorpions" - I just happened to listen to their records here and there. Soooo my impression could be wrong, but that's what it is. :o)

quote: I do believe that they are sellouts. They don't care what fans want, all they want is to make more and more money and I don't think that's cool.
I don't understand the whole 'sellout' logic. You say they don't care what the fans want - but if they sell so much and make so much money, doesn't this mean that they are doing what the fans want and this is why the fans are buying their stuff?
And what's wrong with making 'more and more money'? You don't like making money?
I hear this thing all the time. I remember a lot of punk rockers saying "Green Day is a sellout"....I never understood why until I realized the reason behind it:
Before Green Day became popular, they weren't known to many, just people who were really into the punk rock scene. When Green Day became popular and even the average joes were listening to them and watching their MTV videos, the punk rockers would say, "oh man they are sellouts." - it was the 'cool' thing to say.
Just because a group becomes popular and gets real big doesn't make them a sellout. I think it's lame when people talk about a group becoming a 'sellout' just because it's the cool thing to say.
Metallica may or may not have altered their style a little - I'm not such an expert on Metallica, but their recent stuff has great sound, great engineering (always crisp....I think they are sorta like the Pink Floyd of Metal), and they have excellent melodies (in comparison to most of the music-less stuff being made thease days).
So what if they are making a lot of money? Be happy that the band you loved in the old days made it big so that more mainstreem-like people can share your love of their music. Don't get all trendy with the 'sellout' rherotic.

I guess "selling out", as it is meant by the "harcore" fan group refers to a group "cleaning up their act and sounding more mainstream", to attract a wider audience...is it a bad thing? certainly not for the group (they make more money) or their new mainstream fans (they like and buy groups music)...but I guess the "hardcore" or "grassroots" fans are often dissapointed by the fact that a group is not catering to their particular tastes anymore, because "they were there first", they feel like they took part in making the group "famous", they feel like the "grass roots" fans that are no longer needed. Is that a bad thing? I guess it depends who you ask...So when you hear people say that a group "sold out", I guess they mean that they were into the group's music before they became famous, and now they don't like them anymore...

as Ahtoh said this term is usually used by hardcore fans of a band. Metallica was popular back in 80's without even making 1 video or radio single. REAL fans went to their live shows and screamed for them. Mtv or radio didn't do anything for them, so why sould they change their sound just to get their song played by a stupid radio station?? Metallica was extremely rich back in 80's, and they couldn't even dream of having that much money because a metal band never makes that much, and they knew that. But once they tasted the money, they changed just to make more. They changed for people who never cared about them, and that's one thing a metal band should NOT do. Personally I like metal in it's pure form. Metal is not pop or hip hop(nothing against them), you can't remix metal. Metallica did an interview after one of their sold out live shows(about 1985-86), they said that they are not here to make profit or get chicks, they are here to RULE the world and bring back the true Metal. They said why should we become something fancy? It's just the four of us doing what we do. Many people believed in that. and believe it or not every time I listen to their old stuff I say what a waste of talent. and it hurts.
I don't know anything about Green Day. But I know Punk Rock is a lot different than Metal. almost everyone listens to punk, but metal is never meant to be popular. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I see it.
by the way I'd like us to talk about other kinds of Metal like Black, Death, Power and Doom.

W.A.S.P. is great. They've been working on a new album since 2002, but I'm not sure if it's ever gonna come out as an official record. These guys and Sepultura used to be the heaviest stuff in metal genre. shoot! world has changed a lot!
I never liked Manowar. I don't know why, but isn't it just annoying to hear someone saying:We are the greatest Metal band?(just my personal idea).
I think Dimmu Borgir are the greatest death/black metal band out there right now. of course Cradle of Filth comes right after. ;-)
Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest, etc. are what metal is based on. Painkiller by judas priest is still one of my favorite albums. by the way have you guys heared the new Maiden album? it ROCKS. I don't know how he does it, but every time bruce Dickinson makes something, it's f%@king GREAT!
Here are a couple of bands you guys might wanna check out:
Tiamat
Tristania
Katatonia
Amorphis
