ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA (August 23, 2007) -- Internationally acclaimed Theatre Shkidy has chosen Atlanta for their premiere theatrical tour of the United States. Five performances are scheduled Friday, 12 October through Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the 14th Street Playhouse in midtown Atlanta.
Theatre Shkidy has broken language and cultural communication barriers to touch the hearts and souls of audiences throughout Europe and Asia with their beautiful nonverbal drama. Russia’s CTC Entertainment Television Network declared “The whole round world belongs to Shkidy. Other theatre groups perform for spectators. Shkidy makes the whole world join them in their games.” Theatre Shkidy combines rich Russian theatre tradition with the movement and grace of physical theatre, mime, ballet, dance, and philosophical clownery to transcend language and cultural barriers. The troupe that has thrilled enthusiastic audiences throughout Europe and Asia invites Atlanta audiences to “join them in their games.”
The U.S. tour will feature “Starry Stories,” a play written and directed by Tatiana Zbyshevskaya and Rishat Valitov. Nataly Magazine calls the play a “masterpiece of non-verbal dramatic art, combining a poignant story with sidesplitting humor. … Every scene develops as naturally as a good mood, as inspiration, as revelation.” The production appeals to all ages, and includes a musical score featuring the music of a variety of composers and groups such as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Yes, Tchaikovsky, Deep Purple, and Richard Wagner.
Tickets for Atlanta performances are $24 Adults and $18 Children and Students. Tickets are available through the Woodruff Center box office: 404-733-5000 or online www.14thstplayhouse.org.
