Когда в Москве был третий час ночи пятницы, 27 августа,Владимир Путин сел за руль новенькой желтой машины «Лада-Калина» с государственным номером С 020 РМ 177 rus и помчался вперед колонны из Хабаровска в Читу.

За несколько минут до начала премьерской автокомандировки нам удалось обследовать этот автомобиль и даже посидеть за рулем. Прежде всего мы обратили внимание на то, что рядом с шофером-премьером лежала карта. Видимо, это скорее дань традиции и дисциплинированность водителя, а может, быть привычка: Путин как свои пять пальцев знает эту дорогу. Еще перед началом своего дальневосточного турне на острове Самойловском премьер рассказал о том, какое событие нас ждет.

— Мы заканчиваем шоссейную дорогу от Читы до Хабаровска. По сути, это историческое событие для России. Все территории нашей страны никогда не были связаны автомобильным транспортом. Сто лет назад, чтобы попасть из европейской части в дальневосточную, добирались либо по зимникам — зимой, либо на кораблях через Индийский океан. К 1904 году была построена железная дорога, и это было связано с приближавшейся войной с Японией. В советское время построена другая ветка — связано с обострением с Китаем. А шоссейной вообще не было. И вот сейчас мы заканчиваем две с половиной тысячи километров, и впервые в истории вся Россия будет соединена автомобильной дорогой.

Когда мы изучали премьерскую «Ладу-Калину», то обратили внимание на коллекцию музыкальных компакт-дисков: это были записи групп «ЧайФ» и «Битлз», Григория Лепса… Еще обратили внимание на то, что машина оснащена системой навигации ГЛОНАСС.

Удалось нам заглянуть и в багажник. Там лежали две подушки и плед. Из чего можно было сделать вывод, что Путин действительно собирается в столь дальнюю дорогу — если он устанет в пути, то сможет отдохнуть и продолжить командировку.

— Вообще-то я не собираюсь весь путь быть только за рулем, — сказал Путин. — Но проеду всю трассу.

— А почему выбрали именно этот автомобиль?

— ВАЗ выпускает популярные автомобили. Эта машина мне понравилась.

— А как вам цвет?

— Пускай будет. Цвет красивый, молодежный.

Because current market is artificially supported (it's rumors, but we will eventually find out the truth), any significant dip is followed by strong buy volume. I have been buying dips recently and selling same day. My short selling wasn't as successful, so I have abandoned it for now. Daytrading the dips seems to work though...

Anyone out there wanting to exchange trading ideas and tips?

China marches towards world's No. 2 economy

LONDON (CNNMoney.com) -- China is on track to overtake Japan as the world's second-largest economy after the United States, figures released Monday show.

Japan's gross domestic product, or GDP, totaled $1.29 trillion for the three months ending in June, the nation's Cabinet Office announced. China's official figure for the same period was $1.34 trillion.

The International Monetary Fund expects China's output to reach $5.4 trillion by the end of 2010. By comparison, it estimates Japan's GDP at $5.3 trillion.

Another analyst says the whole matter is academic.

"Basically, China's underlying growth rate is going to be about 8 percent over the next decade. Japan's underlying is going to be about 1 percent," said Jesper Koll, an economist with JPMorgan in Tokyo. "In 10 year's time, the Chinese economy will be twice the size of the Japanese economy."

China vs. Japan: China's economy has been growing at a breakneck pace. It achieved a growth rate of 10.3% in the second quarter, according to official data.

Growth in Japan, on the other hand, has been sluggish. In the three months ended in June, growth slowed to just 0.4%.

China's economy has been driven by its exports -- its trade surplus hit an 18-month high of $28.7 billion in July -- and supported by its massive population.

By comparison, Japan has struggled with a strong currency, which has hurt exports. The yen touched a 15-month high against the dollar earlier this month. It also is coping with an aging and shrinking population.

Last month, China's chief currency regulator told China Reform magazine the country had already surpassed Japan in output.

While there are signs that China's expansion is starting to cool, the country's growth is still easily outpacing more developed economies.

It still trails the United States by a wide margin, but some economists believe China could even eventually unseat the United States as the world's largest economy. Although, it would probably take at least a decade before that happens.

For 2009, the International Monetary Fund listed the United States as the world's largest economy at $14.26 trillion, followed by Japan at $5.07 trillion and China at $4.91 trillion.

But for a view as to where the world is heading, take a close look at automotive sales data coming out of the two countries. It is instructive -- and a bit frightening.

In the U.S., politicians and executives are patting each other on the back for having survived the recession of 2008-2009. At the same time they are hunkering down for what they call the "new normal" -- auto sales running at about two thirds of the 16 million units a year they got used to calling normal earlier in the 2000s.

China, meanwhile, continues to steam ahead at a remarkable rate, marking milestone after milestone. According to JD Power, car sales there are forecast to surge this year by 20% and reach 15.6 million units.

IPv6, here we come...

At some point in 2011 the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) will run out of unique numbers to give to each Web site and will be replacing them with numbers in the new protocol, IPv6; companies that do not prepare themselves for the change may find their public-facing sites malfunctioning. Computers will no longer connect directly with an IPv4 Web site and will instead go through a gateway provided by their ISP unless a company reconfigures its Web server to connect directly to IPv6.

For the more complex e-commerce or customer-care sites, an ISP-provided gateway is not likely to work as well as a direct connection, and can result in customers having to log in several times, poor video quality, loss of data about customer visits, and other problems. Reconfiguring for IPv6 will not in itself require a lot of labor but will require much coordination with partners to make sure the Web site's applications work with IPv6, and old firewalls may need to be replaced.

The process could take months for large companies with complicated Web sites, and while there is no specific date when the numbers will run out, it will certainly happen next year. "You can either do a planned, careful migration, or you can do it in a panic," says Martin Levy, director of IPv6 strategy for Hurricane Electric. "And you should know full well that panicking is more expensive."

Российские блоггеры и некоторые СМИ обрушились с критикой на премьера Владимира Путина за вчерашний полет противопожарном самолете МЧС Бе-200, принимавшем участие в тушении лесных пожаров в Рязанской области. Главу правительства обвиняют в пиаре на трагедии и грозят жалобами в Росавиацию и транспортную прокуратуру.

Газета "Ведомости" в короткой и хлесткой редакционной статье пишет: "Необходимости для премьера лично тушить пожар не было никакой иной, кроме пиаровской: ему зарплату платят за правильную организацию деятельности министерств и ведомств. То есть за то, чтобы пожары тушили профессионалы, а не он лично".

"Представляете, сколько народу было отвлечено для организации визита, проверки техники, обеспечения охраны?" - обращаются к читателям журналисты. Они подчеркивают, что простые добровольцы-тушители при этом не могут добиться от МЧС и местных администраций внятной организации, ведер и лопат, не говоря уже о серьезной технике (цитаты других СМИ по теме - на сайте "Заголовки.ru").

Блоггеры пошли еще дальше: они заинтересовались законностью нахождения Путина за штурвалом воздушного судна. Советник губернатора Кировской области Алексей Навальный (ник navalny) пишет в своем ЖЖ: "Постороннее лицо находится в кабине. Сертификатов-разрешений-лицензий у гр. Путина В.В., надо полагать, не имеется. Почему кого попало за штурвал пускают?"

Он просит специалистов в области авиации прокомментировать, подпадает ли этот полет премьера под действующие правила. В противном случае это - возмутительный инцидент и предмет для серьезного расследования транспортной прокуратурой или Росавиацией.

"Вопрос о том, почему самолет Бе-200 отвлекают от работы и используют как аттракцион в парке Горького, оставим пока за скобками. Будем надеяться, что ВВП не увлечется хирургией и не начнет завтра, под вспышки фотокамер, делать операции на сердце в качестве "второго хирурга", - заключает Навальный.

Блоггер viking_nord считает, что полет Путина нарушает как минимум Кодекс об административных правонарушениях - п.4 ст.11.5 "Управление воздушным судном лицом, не имеющим права управления им". Это влечет наказание в виде штрафа от 2 до 2,5 тысячи рублей.

"Человека без летной подготовки, которую проходят годами, посадили за штурвал военного самолета пусть и вторым пилотом. Особо цинично звучат слова про экспресс-инструктаж. Когда в кабину самолета президента Польши Качиньского зашел командующий ВВС страны, просто зашел, это было признано ГРУБЕЙШИМ нарушением правил полетов, а тут мало того, что зашел, еще и за штурвал сел", - рассуждает блоггер.

"Он рисковал и жизнями людей - тех, кто был в самолете, спасателей в лесах и местных жителей. Не дай Бог, рухнул бы самолет, и что тогда? Это очень опасный пиар", - продолжил он, отвечая на комментарии к своему посту.

Многие владельцы интернет-дневников также обратили внимание на символичную опечатку, допущенную информагентствами, которые распространили сообщения о тушении рязанских пожаров Путиным: вместо "самолет-амфибия" они написали"самолет-амбиция". Полный текст сообщения приводит в своем ЖЖ журналист и блоггер-тысячник Александр Плющев (plushev). Эту ошибку подхватили ряд СМИ, в том числе и редакторы сайта "Единой России" (скриншот из ЖЖ Навального).

Плющев, который является также ведущим новостей на "Эхе Москвы", в эфире обратил внимание на еще один тонкий момент: в текстах информагентств говорилось, что Путин занял место второго пилота. Однако, судя по фотографиям, сидит он в кресле слева - то есть там, где сидит первый и главный пилот.

"Неужели кому-то приходит в голову - что это хоть как-то вызывает симпатию у населения?! Ну пожары же - это не карусели - чтоб на самолетах всяких кататься под телекамеры!" - возмущается блоггер Эрик Лобах, чье мнение привело в среду радио "Свобода".

"В течение полутора месяцев правительство не смогло справиться с таким вызовом, показало полную профнепригодность в экстренных обстоятельствах - и никакой такой тупой пиар не поможет", - пишет он.

Не остались в стороне и западные СМИ. Cоциологи зафиксировали падение рейтингов российских президента и премьера, но у властей есть излюбленный козырь - телевизионные репортажи о Путине как "человеке дела", пишет "Газета.Ru", приводя комментарии иностранных журналистов.

"На это (падение рейтингов) Путин ответил с обычным энтузиазмом, - иронизирует радиостанция "Голос Америки". - Гостелевидение запечатлело его вторничные подвиги, когда в качестве второго пилота самолета-амфибии он забрал в реке воду и сбросил ее на один из горящих рязанских лесов". Государственные информагентства "были в экстазе", замечает французская газета Le Point. "Путин - политический пожарный" режима, написала немецкая Die Zeit, как только премьер оказался на месте пожарищ.

"Небывалая жара и лесные пожары снизили рейтинги популярности правящего тандема, и, чтобы исправить ситуацию, премьер Владимир Путин лично сел за штурвал самолета МЧС, поучаствовав в тушении пожара", - рассказывает читателям австрийская Der Standart.

Несмотря на публичные акции, положительно влияющие на общественное мнение, рейтинг Путина на сегодняшний день достиг минимума. По данным Фонда общественного мнения, в настоящее время Владимиру Путину доверяют 61%, а президенту Медведеву 52% россиян, тогда как в январе это были 69 и 62% соответственно. А российская газета "Труд" приводит мнение президента Института стратегических оценок и анализа Александра Коновалова: "Путин определенно начал подготовку к предвыборной кампании", - говорит эксперт. Премьер показывает позитивную динамику по вниманию СМИ за период лесных пожаров (и борьбы с ними), пишет издание. По данным агентства Integrum, с конца июня (когда президент и премьер шли вровень) и к началу августа внимания к Путину стало почти на 50% больше, чем к Дмитрию Медведеву.

"Патроном" для россиян остается именно Путин, продолжает газета. По мнению директора Агентства политических и экономических коммуникаций Дмитрия Орлова, в глазах общественности премьер, появляющийся непосредственно на месте трагедий, выглядит более эффектно, чем президент.

За последнее время Путин совершил уже три поездки по горящим регионам - в Нижегородскую и Рязанскую области и Воронеж. При этом поездка в Нижегородскую область оказалась неприятной: там премьер и правительство подверглись критике со стороны местных жителей. Телеканалы вырезали скандальные кадры, однако ВИДЕО оказалось доступно в интернете.

После этого пресс-служба главы кабинета приняла меры: общаться с погорельцами Путин будет в сопровождении нескольких самых "благонадежных" журналистов.

This time it is 'Rumble Fish' (1983) by Francis Ford Coppola

Has anybody seen the movie? It's set in Oklahoma, OK, USA, about American-Italian dudes, but it's almost like going back in time to the Soviet Russia/Ukraine at the same time. I honestly have seen something like that happening back in my yard in Leningrad, when I was way too little to comprehend. Classic! Bravo!

Great cast: Dennis Hopper, Nicholas Cage (Coppola is his real last name, related btw) and of course Mickey Rourke.

What are your must have features in a house?

I've been looking at houses, but not in that "must find one soon because I have to move" sort of way. It's more of an "I don't know how much longer I can share walls with other humans and I really want my own English maze (or at least a hedge)" thing.

For you experienced home buyers, what are your deal breakers? What features do you have to have in a house?

My list includes nothing built after 1930, gas connection in the kitchen, basement, high ceilings, wood floors and the original doors and moldings.

There are other things I'd like, but I might compromise if it was otherwise perfect -- like a working boiler and radiators, permanent attic stairs, unpainted woodwork, a kitchen that hasn't been remodeled and at least one working fireplace. I'm also rather smitten with those Arts and Crafts stone porch supports that are wider at the bottom than the top.

So, what am I missing? What do you look for?"

Reality TV Shows near you

Does anyone follow them? I don't, because I find them all so boring and stupid. And yet they thrive on almost all of the major networks. I was just wondering if some of you have a different opinion on that subject. And if you are out there, then please don't be offended by my remark. Speak up, I want to hear your point of view.

There is no question that these shows are popular. I am struggling with the question why? There is no a story or a punch line (if they pretended to be funny… none of them from what I watched are btw) or any profound lesson that we can learn besides that stupid and ignorant folks do exist. That has been known for a long time.

If there was a torture for me, it would be me sitting in a chair with my hands in handcuffs and my eyes wide open, just like in that movie called the Clockwork Orange (1971), and watch it all.. not the movie... you.. :). So what's the heck is going on? (blame my language, sorry).

I understand that it is much easy to do that kind of shows, as supposed to hire writers and directors (good ones) and do something interesting and intellectually stimulating. The fact that these shows are cheaper to make… doesn't necessarily mean they are better from what has been done before. And on top of that, these shows are not really the reality shows. All of them are written and directed in some way or another.

You may have heard recently that U.S. companies have emerged from the financial crisis in robust health, that they've paid down their debts, rebuilt their balance sheets and are sitting on growing piles of cash they are ready to invest in the economy.

You could hear this great news pretty much anywhere — maybe from Bloomberg, which this spring hailed the "surprising strength" of corporate balance sheets. Or perhaps in the Washington Post, where Fareed Zakaria reported that top companies "have accumulated an astonishing $1.8 trillion of cash," leaving them in the best shape, by some measures, "in almost half a century."

Or you heard it from Dallas Federal Reserve President Richard Fisher, who recently said companies were "hoarding cash" but were afraid to start investing. Or on CNBC, where experts have been debating what these corporations are going to do with all their surplus loot. Will they raise dividends? Buy back shares? Launch a new wave of mergers and acquisitions?

It all sounds wonderful for investors and the U.S. economy. There's just one problem: It's a crock.

American companies are not in robust financial shape. Federal Reserve data show that their debts have been rising, not falling. By some measures, they are now more leveraged than at any time since the Great Depression.

You'd think someone might have noticed something amiss. After all, we were simultaneously being told that companies (a) had more money than they know what to do with; (b) had even more money coming in due to a surge in profits; yet (c) they have been out in the bond market borrowing as fast as they can.

Does that sound a little odd to you?

A look at the facts shows that companies only have "record amounts of cash" in the way that Subprime Suzy was flush with cash after that big refi back in 2005. So long as you don't look at the liabilities, the picture looks great. Hey, why not buy a Jacuzzi?

According to the Federal Reserve, nonfinancial firms borrowed another $289 billion in the first quarter, taking their total domestic debts to $7.2 trillion, the highest level ever. That's up by $1.1 trillion since the first quarter of 2007; it's twice the level seen in the late 1990s.

The debt repayments made during the financial crisis were brief and minimal: tiny amounts, totaling about $100 billion, in the second and fourth quarters of 2009.

Remember that these are the debts for the nonfinancials — the part of the economy that's supposed to be in better shape. The banks? Everybody knows half of them are the walking dead.

Central bank and Commerce Department data reveal that gross domestic debts of nonfinancial corporations now amount to 50% of GDP. That's a postwar record. In 1945, it was just 20%. Even at the credit-bubble peaks in the late 1980s and 2005-06, it was only around 45%.

The Fed data "underline the poor state of the U.S. private sector's balance sheets," reports financial analyst Andrew Smithers, who's also the author of "Wall Street Revalued: Imperfect Markets and Inept Central Bankers," and chairman of Smithers & Co. in London.

"While this is generally recognized for households," he said, "it is often denied with regard to corporations. These denials are without merit and depend on looking at cash assets and ignoring liabilities. Cash assets have risen recently, in response to the fall in inventories, but nonfinancials' corporate debt, whether measured gross or after netting off bank deposits and other interest-bearing assets, is at peak levels."

By Smithers' analysis, net leverage is nearly 50% of corporate net worth, a modern record.

There is one caveat to this, he noted: It focuses on assets and liabilities of companies within the United States. Some U.S. companies are holding net cash overseas. That may brighten the picture a little, but the overall effect is not enormous, and mostly just affects the biggest companies.

That U.S. companies are in worse financial shape than we're being told is clearly bad news for those thinking of investing in U.S. stocks or bonds, as leverage makes investments riskier. Clearly it's bad news for jobs and the economy.

But why is this line being spun about healthy balance sheets? For the same reason we're told other lies, myths and half-truths: Too many people have a vested interest in spinning, and too few have an interest in the actual picture.

Journalists, for example, seek safety in numbers; there's a herd mentality. Once a line starts to get repeated, others just assume it's correct and join in.

Wall Street? It's a hustle. This healthy balance-sheet myth helps sell stocks and bonds. How many bonuses do you think get paid for telling customers the stark facts, and how many get paid for making the sale?

You can also blame our partisan age too. Right now, people on the right have a vested interest in claiming businesses are in healthy shape. That makes the saintly private sector look good, and demonizes President Barack Obama and Big Government for scaring away investment. Vote Republican! Meanwhile, people on the left have an interest in making businesses sound really healthy too: If greedy companies are hoarding cash instead of hiring people, they can cry "Shame on them! Vote Democratic!"

As ever, the truth is someone else's problem and no one's responsibility.

Basically, I am looking to put together a beta for pure web-based “Skype/Chatroulette” type of online service. The premise is rather simple, yet new and groundbreaking. This is not a “me too” – there is nothing like this out there. There are two basic functions envisioned:

Direct connect. User-to-user connectivity via web-browser for live audio-video communication (Like Skype, only in-the-cloud, instant and purely web browser based).
“Chat Roulette” with enhanced GeoIP tagging. This takes “rouletting” to the whole new level, as one could connect to random groups of users by GeoIP attributes – “x miles from me”, city/town, keyword etc.

Database schematic has been drafted.

Camtuber.com portal would also allow “porting in” Facebook user profile.

All of this can be accomplished with the following toolset:

Adobe Stratus Server with Adobe Player 10.0. This manages P2P connectivity, so users connect to each other and traffic does not flow through the server. Adobe Flex/Flash Builder is required to code and compile this logic.
MySQL back-end server database, or the like.
Basic GeoIP database.
PHP manages scripting and HTML
Facebook connectivity

The marketing end of this will be managed by me and other well positioned partners. The idea is to build up user base and then exit by selling to Facebook, Google etc. The existing IP in combination with working Beta would get investors attention. There are already existing inquiries from top national VC shops looking for a beta of this.

We offer 15-20% equity in the enterprise to someone with strong technical background and vision, able to bring this online yesterday. The potential payout is multi-million, worst case scenario you sharpen up on Adobe toolset experience.

Do you think two people of widely different intelligence levels can sustain a meaningful relationship, either close friendship or a romantic involvement?

I don't mean that either party is mentally disabled -- just that one hovers around average intelligence and the other tests perhaps 60 points higher.

Obviously, there are subjects that can't really be discussed between them and conversation is lacking sometimes. But, does it matter if they otherwise enjoy each other's company?

Российский хоккеист Илья Ковальчук решил подписать новый контракт с командой "Нью-Джерси Девилс". Об этом сообщается на официальном сайте команды.

Официальная пресс-конференция, на которой будет заявлено о возвращении Ковальчука в команду состоится 20 июля. В сообщении "Нью-Джерси Девилс" условия контракта российского хоккеиста не разглашаются.

В то же время корреспондент издания "Советский Спорт" Дмитрий Чесноков в своем микроблоге Twitter сообщил, что Ковальчук заключил контракт с "Нью-Джерси Девилс" на 17 лет и сумма контракта составляет около 102 миллионов долларов. По информации корреспондента, на протяжении первых 8 лет Ковальчук будет получать по 10 миллионов долларов ежегодно, в последующие два года - по 7,5 миллионов, а в оставшиеся 7 лет его заработок составит по миллиону долларов в год.

Илья Ковальчук провел в "Нью-Джерси Девилс" сезон 2009/2010. 1 июля получил возможность произвольно выбирать условия контракта с любой командой. Mel Gibson Goes Off Again and Uses the N-Word-is Anyone Surprised?

Yep, Mel Gibson goes off again. In 2006 he was defaming Jewish people, and now he's moved on to black folks. He's allegedly been taped verbally attacking his baby-momma, Oksana Grigorieva. Apparently they're in a nasty dispute where she's claiming that Gibson has offered no child support. Among other psychologically impaired prose, like saying he's going to burn her house down, Gibson is also allegedly quoted as saying he hopes she "gets raped by a pack of n***ers."

This isn't funny, but for some reason I am laughing. Maybe it's because I have become so immune to the pathetic ramblings of racists and has-beens that it just doesn't faze me. Or maybe it's because his alleged comments are so excessively preposterous that I couldn't even take it seriously because of my long-standing habit of dismissing crazy people. But hopefully it moves Grigorieva enough to have him arrested, because even though this nonsense makes me chuckle, it ain't no joke. And though I don't take offense to craziness, I will take you to jail. Threaten to burn my house down? Dude, you're doing time!

One of the things that always makes me shake my head about racists is that they frequently denigrate other groups of people for the same type of behavior in which they themselves participate. Using the term "pack of niggers", is comparing black people to animals. Animals don't think, they react on instinct-animal instinct, like viciously verbally abusing (and allegedly physically abusing) and threatening the mother of your child because you're angry, because you can. Hmmm... whose the wild beast here? This is definitely not the behavior of someone with a Brave Heart.

Let's hope the worst thing that ever happens to Ms. Grigorieva was lying down with a vile loser like Gibson. Now there are three sides to any story. His, hers and the truth, but if in fact this is how it went down, Gibson has pretty much pulled the plug on a career that was already on life support. Even if there are many in Hollywood who actually share Gibson's twisted sentiments on race, I can't imagine many would want to be associated with walking bad press.

Is anyone surprised at Gibson's comments? Is anyone surprised that there are in fact people who still really feel this way about various ethnic groups? And I don't blame Grigorieva for the attack, but why would any woman get or stay involved with Gibson after his first display of drunken stupidity? People change, but seems as if his demons run deep and people typically don't make drastic changes in damaged mindsets very easily or very quickly. And at least Grigorieva reportedly had the common sense to get all this foolishness on tape. She gets a 2010 "Fierce Award" for that!

Hmm... will this blow over? If all this is true will people eventually dismiss Gibson's latest rant chalking it up to be just another display of a desperate ego from a dimming celebrity gone awry? Will we see a press conference or taped apology with Gibson crying what some are calling "Chris Brown" tears? Will we see Gibson on Celebrity Rehab taking mock responsibility for his transgressions? This all remains to be seen, but one thing's for sure. If Gibson really did go off like this, then no one has to worry about how he will pay. Anyone who feels it's okay to behave this way is already living in hell on earth.
