'Angel sent down' to put Bible on Kentucky school curriculum, legislator says

A Kentucky state Senate committee has approved legislation allowing the Bible to be studied as a literary subject in public schools, a move that means the state will likely follow Tennessee, Texas and a handful of others in bringing the Christian text into the curriculum...

 

I wonder how that will turn out.  On one hand it is hard to understand may works of art or literature without knowing the religious influences behind them.  On the other hand, religion it taken very seriously in our society.  I doubt Bible is going to be treated in the classroom the same was as Greek mythology.  I'd expect lawsuits and controversy.

evolution is a fact that can be observed, bible is a book, religion is a set of mind....

 

in any case it's stupid to study bible in literature class, it should be studied in history and sociology as a phenomenon that has changed human history as we know it....  along with Quran and Kamasutra ;)

I also agree that it should be studied in public schools, i only don't like attempts to place it in the realm of science. 

In the realm of History, Literature, its crucual. 

Even US History/Studies (or whatever they call it these days) would be ok, as this is a Christian nation by all definitions - from the principles of its founders to modern demographics. I don;t even like the term "judeo-christian".  Its CHRISTIAN. 

The huge controversy, i think, is simply because activists on both sides are self-serving pricks who don't care about education.

I agree completely, Egor.

The first time I read the Bible all the way through, I was amazed at how much I learned.   For instance, an observant reader can find the origins of about 80% of our civil and criminal law in the Bible.  It was really cool.
