Innochka, you've got it right.
Even from the furthest exists (like exit 13, which is Cumming), it will take you about 35-40 minutes to get into town without traffic. From Exit 10 (the one people have mentioned as "too far", town of Alpharetta), it will take you about 25 minutes without traffic. The problem with Atlanta is traffic...If you work in the center, it will take you over an hour to get there from Alpharetta during rush hour.
The most important point here is what you are looking for. My husband and I have been living in Buckhead for almost 5 years...before we had our daughter it was great! Best travel time to anywhere in the city no matter what part of the day it is; however, once we had our little girl, things changed. If you are looking for a good area with great school, play grounds for kids, subdivisions with families, then I would suggest looking in Alpharetta, Cumming, Roswell and Marietta. There is a part of Roswell/Alpharetta that's called Crabapple (around exit 9/10 of 400) that has some of the best schools in town, especially elementary/middle schools. Other areas around exit 10 have some of the best high schools in Atlanta.
Hope that helps!
